The Kali Santarana Upanishad is one of the minor Upanishads of Hinduism. It belongs to the Krishna Yajurveda and is classified as a Vaishnava text. The name of the Upanishad means "the Upanishad of the liberation from Kali", where Kali refers to the Kali Yuga, the current age of darkness and ignorance. The Upanishad reveals the secret of overcoming the effects of Kali Yuga by chanting the names of Lord Narayana, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

The Upanishad consists of a dialogue between the sage Narada and Brahma, the creator god. Narada asks Brahma how he can cross the ocean of mundane existence (samsara) during Kali Yuga. Brahma replies that there is no better means than reciting the sixteen names of Narayana, which are:
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Brahma says that these names destroy the negative effects of Kali and reveal the Parabrahman, the Absolute Reality, to the chanter. He also describes the benefits of chanting these names, such as attaining liberation, purification, and freedom from sins.
The Kali Santarana Upanishad is considered to be an important source of the Hare Krishna mantra, which is widely chanted by the followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. The mantra is also known as the Maha Mantra, or the Great Mantra, as it is believed to contain the essence of all Vedic scriptures.
