NEW YORK, Feb. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Craig Newmark Philanthropies (CNP) announced on Tuesday a generous $15 million donation to address food insecurity across America. Newmark made the commitment during the first "Leaders Eat Last" virtual panel event, part of a series developed by the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) to take a deeper look into the systems and solutions surrounding food insecurity and specifically its effect on veterans. Tuesday's commitment from Craig Newmark Philanthropies comes after the organization gave $10 million to the fight against food insecurity in October.

Unfortunately, due to very low registration numbers, we have decided to cancel Climb to Conquer Cancer 2022. To put on Climb, we incur some hefty expenses, including rental fees for Libby Hill and fees to our timing company, as well as other expenses. In the early years, these expenses were a very small percentage of our registration fees and donations. This year, based on our best projections, registration fees and donations will not cover our expenses.

By canceling the event, we will be able to help fund life-saving research at Massey. You will have three options: (1) convert your registration fees to a tax-deductible donation to fund cancer research, (2) convert your registration fee to a ticket to Massey on the River (regular $75), or (3) obtain a refund. Regardless of your selection about your registration fees, any additional donations that you made will be remitted to VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Please let us know your preference as soon as possible, and no later than Sunday, August 28, 2022. If we do not hear from you, we will assume you prefer to convert your registration fees to a tax-deductible donation to fund cancer research.

Myasthenia gravis is a rare autoimmune disease. MG is caused by antibodies in the blood that block the normal communication between nerves and muscles, causing muscle weakness. This weakness worsens with activity and improves with rest.

MG results from abnormal immune system activity. Individuals with other auto-immune diseases or an abnormal thymus gland are more likely to have MG. Physicians suspect there may be a combination of factors that trigger the onset of MG symptoms in a susceptible individual, such as an infection or other illness.

This update added the first version of the automoderator, which is responsible for detecting random paint and free paint done by guests and conquerors. Although there is always the risk of a false positive with an automated system, this was seen as a necessary evil because of world conquest's increasingly large player base that the small staff team can not keep up with.

Today, reader support makes up about two-thirds of our budget, allows us to dig deep on stories that matter, and lets us keep our reporting free for everyone. If you value what you get from Mother Jones, please join us with a tax-deductible donation today so we can keep on doing the type of journalism 2023 demands.
